Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Through the Lens: A collaboration with C-Tran

What happens when you bring together a passionate community, vibrant cultures, and talented photographers? An unforgettable day of celebration! Last month on August 27th, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council 47013, in collaboration with C-Tran, hosted an awe-inspiring photo shoot event to mark Hispanic Heritage Month. The occasion wasn't just a gathering but a powerful visual statement that honored the rich heritage of our diverse Latinx communities here in southwest Washington.

Setting the Scene

Held at the scenic Esther Short Park in Vancouver, WA, the event was an open invitation to the public to celebrate the beauty and diversity of Hispanic cultures. And our community came through - with attendees proudly representing not just Mexico, but also Peru, Argentina, Colombia, and Venezuela. We were thrilled to have Vancouver’s own Ballet Folklórico showcasing their traditional attire, each moment was a vibrant homage to our diverse heritage. Notably, one family expressed that this was the first occasion they'd ever felt encouraged to wear their traditional clothing, adding a special layer of significance to the event.

Ana Karen Betancourt Macias: The Woman Behind the Lens and the Event

Ana Karen Betancourt Macias, the vice president of LULAC Council 47013, who also does photography was the driving force behind the organization and execution of this meaningful event. Under her guidance and passion for the community, the event was a huge success, delivering not just photographs but unforgettable experiences for everyone involved.

Capturing the Moment

Our sincere gratitude goes out to the talented photographers who made this event even more special by capturing every smile, every color, and every expression:

Each photographer brought their unique touch to the event, beautifully capturing the spirit of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.

A Community Affair

It was heartening to see the community come together for this event, as each participant signed a photo release form granting permission for their images to be used for educational and promotional purposes related to Hispanic Heritage Month. Although not all photos could be included in the final collage, we are excited to share what was captured on our FB page you can view here.

What’s Next?

If you couldn’t make it to this event? LULAC Council 47013 and other community partners have more activities planned for the community throughout the year. We encourage everyone to stay tuned for future events and to keep celebrating our diverse and enriching heritage.
